Reviews of YogaVenue
M. O.
I cannot recommend YogaVenue enough. It is a wonderfully inclusive environment - old and young, men and women, experienced and newbies and completely body positive. Excellent teachers and exceptional yoga. It has been such an important part of my week for the last 7 years and, when I was recovering from treatment for breast cancer 2 years ago YogaVenue has been a key part of my emotional and physical recovery. Thank you Alessandro and Caroline and Team xx

I have loved every single class I have attended at Yoga venue over the past 10 years. The teachers are all amazing and I always feel fantastic after a hot yoga class. Thank you YV

I have been going to Yogavenue for the hot 26 classes for about a year. I am not someone who really writes reviews, however this is a worthy exception. As someone whose inflexibility is hereditary, I have always been fussy over the yoga classes I attend. The option to purchase a package to trial unlimited classes for 20 days at a reasonable rate was a big help to me to test it out without making a large financial commitment.
The Hot 26 class consists of 2 breathing exercises and a sequence of poses in a heated studio. The more I learn about this the more I appreciate how clever it is. Each pose seems to have hundreds of variations so that all levels can be accommodated. I do my variation, whist someone standing next to me could be doing the most advanced phase, or anything in between. The sequence is in a specific order, meaning that you give your body the space to build up to the master poses in the class.
I first really noticed the benefits of hot 26 when I went up Mount Snowden last year. I knew I was severely under-trained and was dreading the stiffness the next day. Remarkably I had none, which has never happened before and a big surprise given how unfit I was! I have also become more aware of my body as the classes have taught me to listen to myself. Some days I am in a place where I can push hard, whilst others I am gentle. I have always had back issues, but these have improved from attending these classes. It was wonderful to hear from my physio how my shoulder muscles are in a much better place now. These changes were not instantaneous but have occurred over the last year through regular practice (usually 1-2 times per week, occasionally up to 4 when I have time).
The heat can be a bit bizarre at first – it can feel strange during the initial sessions but is pleasant. I love it – my muscles automatically relax as soon as I enter the warm studio and I feel like I have a new body whenever I walk out of a class. I think that this is related to the heat as I don’t get that feeling after stretching / doing yoga at home.
After taking pain killers for a while for back issues related to bad posture & a desk job, I realised that this wasn’t the solution and became concerned about the longer term consequences of not addressing these. Caroline and Alex are helping me heal and are going well beyond the call of duty – even giving up their spare time to identify exercises for me to do at home. The instructors in the classes all know their stuff and are constantly monitoring everyone to ensure exercises are done properly to avoid injuries.
I hope that this review has helped and I look forward to seeing you on the mat!

I love YogaVenue! The love and warm that you receive from this studio starts from the moment that you enter. Amazing classes, fantastic teachers who really care about your needs. I had a break from yoga and they have really supported me coming back to class. All the teachers, reception and the owners (who are the most caring Yoga teachers and still teach alot) are welcoming and always there to help. Yes it can be busy at times, but you don't notice it because the teachers are so good at teaching. It is busy because it is good, I can't recommend it enough. I will really miss yogavenue when I leave Oxford.

I recently moved out of Oxford, and I am having a tough time finding a replacement for this fantastic yoga studio. I really enjoyed discovering yoga at YogaVenue. The studio particularly stands out for the variety of classes it offers (from restorative and yin to vinyasa and bikram). I very much appreciated the smiles and helpfulness of the teachers and receptionists alike, and I enjoyed meeting fellow yogis on a regular basis. I highly recommend this place to practice yoga and feel part of a friendly community!

The instructors and receptionists are all super nice, very informative and helpful. Many different types of yoga available every day. With the booking app very easy to schedule it into your day. It does get busy which would make me want to drop my rating but that’s only the consequence of good and hence popular classes. Have already recommended to many.
They also do workshops.

Small studio covering various yoga styles. I've only tried their Hot yoga and workshops, but those are excellent. Their mirrors are *perfectly* aligned, the ceiling is flawlessly smooth and white. I understand the classes can often be full so your mats will be almost touching. Make sure you pre-book and look out for my favourite guest teacher: Kristin

Yoga Venue is an amazing studio with dedicated hot yoga rooms. Caroline is lovely and the rest of the teachers and staff are very welcoming. I wish I lived closer to the studio so I could take advantage of their broad schedule! I especially enjoy the varied, focused workshops that they offer.

Honestly the best yoga studio I have ever been to!!! The instructors are very inspiring, professional and knowledgable. Amazing range of yoga for many different levels, I especially like the vinyasa yoga and hot yoga classes. Since I've moved away from Oxford I haven't been able to find a yoga studio as good as Yoga Venue. Really miss it here!!!

I have been attending classes at Yoga Venue for a number of years now. In the busy, frantic and digital world we live in, it's refreshing to know I can go into a room with like minded people for an hour; or more, and connect back to my mind and body, we all need some “Me Time” every now and then. The classes at the studio are run by very experienced and understanding instructors/mentors. You never feel like you are in a competition, but encouraged to listen to your body on how 'its' feeling that class. I very much enjoy the Hot classes. Hot 26, Hot Power and HIIT, but there are so many more classes available to suit every style of Yogi. 1 other thing I have learnt to understand about Yoga, is there are no stereotypes for being a Yogi. Anyone, and I mean anyone can take up yoga, and even doing yoga once or twice a week personally gives me huge health and well-being benefits. I couldn't recommend Yoga Venue enough.

Vibe:
After going to classes 3-6 times weekly for 3 months the reception staff still don't know my name and this also translates into the community of Yogis themselves. I don't find this place particularly friendly, there is not enough space, no room in the change rooms and only 2 real showers.... Also, the women's change room opens straight into reception where people can see you changing.
Classes:
There are some REALLY lovely teachers here who care about the students and their development as yogis. Patience, Alessandro and Katie are some of the star teachers here. They really seem to care about creating a sustainable and functional practice for their students.
However, I still don't understand why in 2019, people continue to teach Bikram. Bikram is a terrible practice which does not allow modifications for each body. We all know now that EVERY body is different and not every pose will work for every person. I was called out MANY times in one class for not following exactly what the teacher said because it didn't feel right for my body. I understand that it is the style of practice but it was embarrassing and quite annoying, I am not a child and I don't enjoy being spoken to like a child. Towards the end of class the teacher came up to me called me out by name and stopped the class to show them (and to punish me) what I was doing wrong. I come to yoga to feel free, not constrained. I guess it was my mistake for giving Bikram another try...
HEAT:
The heat is VERY humid. Yes you are supposed to sweat, but never have I ever felt this humid in a hot class. It really hinders your practice as you are slipping around everywhere. They also don't clean the floors in between classes so the floors can be slippy.

Yoga venue has a class for everyone. From restorative to hot hiit, all are equally enjoyable, offering many different benefits. I leave yoga venue with a happy soul and fresh mind. All of the teachers are amazing but if I had to recommend any particular classes, I'd encourage you to visit one of Katie's vinyasa or restorative classes, hot hiit with Caroline (it's tough but soooo fun!) or Kate's Yin - she really does have a way of making you feel amazing. I am a runner and since attending yoga venue I have seen a vast improvement in my endurance, form and ability to recover at a faster rate. Thank you all at Yoga Venue - it really is a pleasure.

I can't recommend this studio well enough. If you are looking for a place to practice/try many different styles of yoga, with a team of experienced and passionate teachers, then YogaVenue is the answer. It offered me my first 'real' experience of yoga nearly 3 years ago and quite literally changed my life! Having moved away from Oxford I miss the YV team very much and would encourage anyone in Oxford to drop by and try them out, you won't regret it.
K. B.
Not that great for a beginner. I would never know if I was doing my posture correctly as the instructor did not demonstrate, he only gave instructions. But I guess you would know if you come to the class regularly. The class was incredibly packed as well as the changing room and bathroom. The price has discouraged me to becoming a member. Although , it was satisfying at the end from a good workout.

This is a good yoga studio, but usually very crowded (even the off-peak classes) and hot because of all the people in the class. They will usually not leave the windows wide open during the class to cool it down, just barely cracked open, and not for the entirety of the class. I asked why and they said it was because of the road noise, but the windows face a large Tesco building with the only noise there being the very occasional loading and unloading of delivery trucks. The first class I went there I told them I'd never done hot yoga before, only to be told that wasn't a hot yoga class!

I have attended classes at Yoga Venue since 2013 when I relocated to Oxford. Having been a keen yogi in London I was impressed by Yoga Venue's commitment to consistently high standards in teaching. More importantly I have really come to appreciate the warm, the welcoming community Caroline & Alesdandro and their teching team have nurtured which was like a life raft when I moved to Oxford. I have been a full time member since 2013 and now consider YV a home from home where I have been lucky to meet many lovely, interesting people who appreciste the classes and community just as much as me.
A huge thank you to the YV team and Caroline and Alessandro who are always trying to improve and extend our yoga experience.

Loving this yoga studio, the place is friendly and, as a beginner, I have found myself welcomed and well looked after.
The place isn't that big and as such there isn't much room to move around, but it all contributes to the family atmosphere that you breathe since you walk in.
Highly recommended.

Whenever I visit YogaVenue i always receive a friendly and professional welcome from everyone. Its a great space for a variety of yoga styles, whether you are a beginner or a seasoned yogi with knowledgable and experienced teachers. Thank you!

I really liked my experiences in yoga class- a shame that the business doesn't value its customers. I had signed up for the 40pound/20day trial and came down with a very serious case of tonsillitis which caused me to miss 6 days or 30% of the trial. I emailed them asking for a trail extension- only to receive this reply: 'The intro offer is for 20 consecutive days and is not extendable. But don't worry you've already made it worth your while, as we say if you come at least 3 times it’s cheaper than doing a drop in and you've already been able to make it to class 4 times and you still have time left.'
The problem with this reply is that:
1. I purchased the trial on the basis that I would be paying trial prices for each class. Had I wanted to pay a different price or the 'drop in price' than I would have done that.
2. I understand the policy, but surely being sick should be considered separate from planned/changeable commitments.
It is unfortunate because had they allowed me to extend it, I would have bought classes for the rest of my time at Oxford. For anyone thinking about the trial- avoid any unplanned illnesses!

Really enjoyed the classes here. The teachers are very helpful and although it is busy you do get an excellent session with helpful guidance from the teachers. Always feel great after the class and the kombucha they sell is lovely!

First time at studio. Nice studio. Katherine was great--kind, encouraging. Facilities leave much to be desired. Barely any space in the changing room, 1 toilet for some tens of women. Two open shower heads for post-bikram workout. Way too crowded.

I very much enjoy my classes at the studio. I couldn't recommend it enough for anyone who wants to remove themselves completely from the stresses of the outside world, and embrace something that is mentally and physically challenging and equally rewarding.
All of the staff are wonderfully friendly, and make a real effort to remember your name which means a lot in today's world of anonymity. You are always greeted with a friendly smile, which immediately puts you at ease - even if you have had a stressful day.
They are equally helpful in class. If you struggle with a posture (either through temporary injury or general stiffness), then they will offer an alternative to maintain your participation in the class, and help you on the way to the full posture.
I have been attending for several years now, and am very glad for it!

As a first timer at a yoga class of any type I was to be honest a bit apprehensive on my first visit (HOT 26) but there was no need as the studio was very welcoming and although I was having to learn all the various postures from scratch the guidance and support from Caroline who was teaching that day was first class and I felt very comfortable in my surroundings, which has led me to becoming a hot studio regular and enjoying the benefits of improved fitness and flexibility.

Absolutely love this yoga studio - amazing friendly community and teachers, with lessons every day. Hugely helped in my performance in boxing and rugby too! :)

I had such a lovely session yesterday! Everyone there was really friendly and it was a really positive, relaxing experience for me. I will definitely go back for more sessions, thank you!

A very kind and supportive reintroduction to Bikram after several years out. Calm and considered teaching, reasonable class sizes and friendly staff. Tip!

An amazing place, especially the hot yoga studio, with a really friendly atmosphere and knowledgeable instructors. I always recommend YogaVenue to my friends.

I may be one of the oldest members in the class but I leave feeling like one of the youngest. Karen's Hatha Yoga classes make you feel calm and stretched!

Amazing studio and instructors, I've thoroughly enjoyed my Yoga practices here, especially bikram yoga.
